Arrive Alive South Africa says “In South Africa, approximately 40% of road fatalities are pedestrian fatalities and accident investigations often reveal that pedestrians have not been visible to motorists.”
Every year dozens of horses and people are injured and killed, due to poor visibility on the roads. As our riding areas and roads become more congested, the risk to horses, riders and motorists increases. In the poor light of evening and morning, it is vital that motorists and cyclists are able to see horses clearly, to avoid serious or fatal accidents.
There is a desperate need to create awareness of poor visibility, among horse riders’, motorists and other road users.
